In iOS 17, Apple added NameDrop, making it a breeze to share your contact information with friends and new acquaintances. This feature simplifies the process of exchanging contacts between your iPhone and another iPhone or Apple Watch.

Here, we'll show you how to use NameDrop on your iPhone to share your contact information effortlessly.

Requirements to Use NameDrop

To utilize NameDrop on your iPhone, you should ensure that the following conditions are met:

  1. Both iPhones should be unlocked and running at least iOS 17. If you're sharing contact information with an Apple Watch, make sure it's on watchOS 10 or later.
  2. You should have your own contact information saved. Add or update your contact information by heading to Settings > Contacts > My Info.
  3. You'll need to create a Contact Poster for yourself if you haven't already. Launch the Contacts app and tap your name at the top of the list. Then, tap Contact Photo & Poster.
  4. Ensure you've activated the Bringing Devices Together toggle by heading to Settings > General > AirDrop.

How to Use NameDrop on Your iPhone

NameDrop works seamlessly once you position both iPhones correctly. Here's what you need to do:

  1. Hold the top bezel of your iPhone close to the top of the other person's iPhone to initiate the contact-sharing process.
  2. A glow will appear at the top of both devices, signifying that a connection is being established. Keep holding the devices together, and the NameDrop interface will appear on both screens.
  3. You and the recipient can then choose from the following options:
    • Receive Only: Obtain the contact card from the other iPhone.
    • Share: Acquire the contact card from the other iPhone and share your own contact information in return.

To cancel the process, simply move the two devices apart before NameDrop completes the transfer.

How to Disable NameDrop on Your iPhone

If you are concerned about inadvertently sharing your contact information with NameDrop, you can deactivate it by following these steps:

  1. Open the Settings app and head to General > AirDrop.
  2. Toggle off the Bringing Devices Together option.

Seamlessly Connect and Control Your Contact Information

NameDrop is a valuable addition to iOS 17, streamlining the process of sharing contact information between iPhones and Apple Watches. It provides a convenient and efficient way to connect with friends and new acquaintances, ensuring you always stay connected in a digital world.

You don't have to worry about someone stealing your contact information because NameDrop doesn't work when your iPhone is locked.
