Verification badges are a symbol of authenticity and trustworthiness. When you see that blue tick next to an account, it's a clear signal (in most cases) that you're engaging with genuine individuals or recognized brands. While platforms like X and Instagram are well-known for this feature, Meta's Threads also offers its users the chance to become verified.
Below, we guide you through the two methods available for verification on Threads.
1. Request Verification on Instagram
To get verified on Threads, you have two options. The first is the legacy verification process through Instagram, which is free. However, to be eligible, you need to be either an individual or a brand of public interest.
Here are the criteria you must meet for this process:
- Your account should authentically represent a person or brand.
- It should uniquely showcase the individual or business.
- You need to have a complete profile.
- Your account should be well-known.
If you meet these requirements, follow these steps to apply for verification:
- Launch Instagram and click on your profile icon in the bottom-right corner.
- Tap on the three bars in the top-right to access the Settings menu.
- Head over to Settings and Privacy > Account type and tools.
- Choose Request verification.
- Fill out the form in the following screen and select Submit.3 Images
Once you have submitted your application, Meta will review it and inform you about its decision. However, this method is not guaranteed and can take a long time.
2. Subscribe to Meta Verified
The second option involves subscribing to Meta Verified, a service that allows you to pay a monthly fee for verification on both Instagram and Threads. This is quite similar to the method of subscribing to X Premium (formerly Twitter Blue) and is currently available in select regions.
To be eligible for this subscription, you must meet the following requirements:
- Be at least 18 years old.
- Maintain a complete profile on both apps.
- Enable two-factor authentication.
- Meet minimum activity criteria.
- Possess a government-issued ID matching the information on your account.
The subscription fee is $14.99 (or £9.99, depending on your location) per month. Meta will verify your account within 48 hours, granting you the coveted blue verification badge.
To subscribe, tap on the hamburger menu in your profile as we described above and choose Meta Verified > Subscribe > Sign up > Pay now. Instagram will request an ID verification within 48 hours, which you can provide to complete the process.
In case this feature is not available in your country, you will see a Join waitlist option after clicking on Meta Verified. You can click on it to receive a notification when it arrives.
